The project restores the Cathedral to its ancient space and to its profound historical, artistic and ethical significance, altered by previous interventions. The nature of the building requires a careful balance between the repair works and the liturgical necessities for a presbytery worthy of a cathedral and for a more central role of the altar area. The presbytery area, that had been raised in the nineteenth century, has been lowered so that the assembly and the liturgical spaces would be again on the same level.
