Mario Occhiuto(1964) graduated with a degree in architecture from the University of Florence in 1987.
He guides and coordinates the activity of mOa- Mario Occhiuto architetture, an architecture firm which is involved in numerous aspects of the field ranging from design project to urban planning, from landscape to environment-related projects, to furnishing and interior design. Each project by mOa is the result of a team work and is grounded on the thorough analysis of aspects such as sustainability, cultural identity and technological innovation, in order to achieve a model of architecture which fits human and environmental needs
Mario Occhiuto is an important participant in the ongoing debate on many topics of contemporary architecture; his reflection, which revolves mainly around the themes of sustainability-related matters, urban development and landscape improvement, has been stated in conferences, exhibitions and international publications. To name but a few of his past experiences, he was curator of the exhibitions "Italian visions. Architecture and design towards a sustainable environment" (Beijing 2006), "Sustainable Cities in Italian Style" and “The Italian garden. Architecture of emotions.” (Shanghai World Expo 2010) and “Chinese Environmental Protection Exhibition” (Rome 2010).
Among his publications “Towards a sustainable town. The Chinese experience of Huai Rou”), Electa publishing house 2007 (coauthored with F.Butera), and “The accessible city”, Alinea publishing house Florence 1991 (coauthored with B.Lentini).
He was a member of the Superior Council of Cultural Heritage and Environment of the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Cultural Activities; Member of the technical and scientific committee for Architecture and Landscape of the Ministry of the Cultural Heritage and Cultural Activities.
Member of the Technical Operations Unit for the Balkan region, appointed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to rebuild the Balkan area.
Chairman of the Architects, Planners, Landscape and Conservation Architects Association of the Cosenza province.
He was nominated by Winning Italy Award 2010. He received the National Award Laurentius 2010, the prize “Calabresi business world 2010” and the China Trader Award 2008.
